Six Activities You Cannot Miss in Jamaica!
Jamaica is a tropical paradise that is filled with beautiful beaches, stunning natural landscapes, and rich cultural experiences. If you’re planning a trip to Jamaica, there are plenty of things to see and do that will keep you entertained and engaged throughout your stay. Here are a few of our top recommendations for things to do in Jamaica.
1. Experience YS Falls
The YS Falls is a series of cascading waterfalls that are surrounded by lush vegetation. Take a dip in the cool, clear waters, or relax in the natural pools. If you’re an adventure seeker, you’ll love the ziplining tour through the trees above the falls. You’ll be soaring through the air and taking in the breathtaking views of the waterfalls as you fly through the jungle! Because this is a popular destination, we recommend that you visit the falls as soon as they open which is 9 am. That way you can get at least ten blissful minutes of the falls to yourself! It was so beautiful!!! Once you arrive, you’ll be assigned a guide to show you around. Ours brought us to each tier of the falls, took photos, and helped us get on a Tarzan rope swing. Don’t forget to bring cash to tip your guide/photographer-LOL!
2. Relax At Pelican Bar
Located on a sandbar in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, Pelican Bar is a unique and laid-back bar that is only accessible by boat. It’s the perfect place to relax and enjoy a cold drink while taking in the stunning views of the ocean. This bar and restaurant is built on stilts and is covered with a thatched roof, giving it a rustic and tropical feel. You can swim in the crystal clear waters or just sit back and watch the world go by. Pro tip: if you do plan to eat there, order your food as soon as you walk inside, it takes a while for them to prepare your food-but trust me it is worth the wait!
3. Martha Brae Rafting
The Martha Brae River is a beautiful and serene spot that is perfect for a relaxing day out. Take a leisurely raft ride down the river and enjoy the stunning surroundings as you drift downstream. You’ll pass through lush forests and small villages, and you’ll have the chance to see a variety of wildlife along the way. The rafts are guided by experienced raft captains who will provide a fun and informative tour of the area. Feel free to ask the captain to let you ‘captain’ the raft, but be prepared for an intense upper-body workout!
4. Visit Dunn’s River Falls
The Dunn’s River Falls is a series of tiered waterfalls that is a popular attraction in Jamaica. You can climb up the falls and take a refreshing dip in the pools at the top, or just relax on the beach and watch the action. The best time to go is in the morning right before the massive crowds of tourists arrive. We ended up climbing up the falls without a guide and found it to be pretty easy. Make sure to pack your water shoes and waterproof cameras!
5. Fire Water Pond
The Fire Water Pond is a mineral spring that is located off the beaten path in St. Ann’s Bay. Loaded with natural gases, the water catches fire when ignited. Take a dip in the warm, water and relax! The Fire Water Pond is said to have medicinal effects and can heal all ailments. We didn’t have any ailments, and therefore can’t confirm if it’s true. However, that experience did go down as THE MOST UNIQUE activity we’ve tried in Jamaica.
6. Bobsledding
Bobsledding is an adrenaline-fueled activity that takes place at Mystic Mountain in Ocho Rios. You’ll ride in a high-speed bobsled down a winding track that is cut into the side of a mountain, taking in the fantastic views as you go. The bobsleds are designed to be safe and comfortable. We highly recommend this activity when visiting Jamaica!
There are so many things to see and do in Jamaica, from exploring the vibrant culture and history of the island to soaking up the sun on the beautiful beaches. Whether you’re looking for adventure or relaxation, Jamaica has something for everyone.
