As February unfolds, love is in the air, and with Valentine’s Day just around the corner, what better time to whisk yourself away to a world of romantic indulgence? We consider ourselves incredibly fortunate to have experienced some of the most enchanting and intimate dining moments around the globe. Picture a whimsical breakfast on a sand dune in Namibia, or a romantic oceanside cave dinner in Jamaica. Culinary romance is our passion! Join me on this delightful odyssey as we explore the magic of love intertwined with the flavors of the world in five extraordinary dining destinations. Whether you’re seeking inspiration for a romantic getaway or simply yearning for a virtual escape, these tales of love and gastronomy are sure to ignite your wanderlust!!!
First up on this list is Kenya, the most slept-on romantic destination EVER! One of our most memorable meals occurred in the Masaai Mara, right in the bush (the wild) near the riverside. Picture this: birds chirping, and hippos hipping! Plus, it was perfectly safe. We were chauffeured to a dedicated spot by our guide from the hotel, where three other hotel staff members— including a chef, a server, and the dining experience manager—awaited us. They prepared a mouthwatering spread of pastries, fruits, eggs, and sausages. Not to mention a bottle of champagne to toast and enhance our experience!
Our next stop is Jamaica. While you might already associate it with tropical romance—white sand beaches, dancing palm trees—I’m here to tell you, it gets even better! We had a private candlelit dinner inside a cliff-side cave right next to the ocean. The aesthetics, combined with the soothing sounds of the waves and the bright stars decorating the sky, created an incredibly romantic environment. The meal was exquisite, starting with bread and soup, followed by lobster and vegetables, and finishing with a delectable chocolate cake. This dinner was beautiful from start to finish and will live rent-free in our heads forever! Shout out to The Cave Hotel for their excellent service too!
Moving on to New Zealand, we enjoyed an unforgettable lunch near the river, embraced by the stunning mountains. The experience was as picturesque as it was delicious, with a charcuterie board adorned with a selection of savory cheeses, an exquisite octopus carpaccio, a refreshing lobster salad, all crowned by the indulgence of a deconstructed chocolate cake-extra points to the chef at The Lindis Hotel for his creativity. The combination of breathtaking scenery, the symphony of the river, and the exquisite flavors made this meal a sensory journey etched in our memories.
Now, uncovering another jewel on our romantic culinary expedition at the Kagga Kamma nature reserve. Here, our hearts were set ablaze as we dined in an open-air star suite nestled against a giant boulder, three kilometers away from the Main Lodge. Imagine cooking dinner over the fire, connecting with your loved one, all while admiring the bright starry sky. This was not just a meal; it was a celestial experience—a unique and unforgettable rendezvous. Also, to this day, Justin is super proud of the fire he built that night!
