The Fashionable Frequent Flyers

There was so much to be thankful for this year: 1) I married the woman of my dreams in Nairobi, Kenya, in the presence of my loved ones; 2) I had one of the most unique honeymoon experiences ever; 3) I overcame some extreme personal and health challenges this year, hopefully allowing me to come out stronger on the other side; and the list goes on and on. One of the year’s highlights was discovering the beautiful Kimpton Mas Olas Resort and Spa, where I spent my Thanksgiving this year! This remarkable resort opened in April 2024, and is located in Todos Santos–about 75 minutes away from Los Cabos. It is, without question, a slice of paradise.

Alright, let’s start with the Oceanfront Villa! What a sight! This one-bedroom villa has to be one of the most beautiful I have ever encountered. The set up is absolutely stunning. First of all, I can’t get over how spacious it is. There is a King bed in the middle of the villa, overlooking a couch and cupboard in the corner (which houses the safe and fridge). On the lower level of the villa is the villa patio, which the bed overlooks. The villa patio is incredible and boasts a plunge pool, seating area, and wonderful day bed adjacent to the plunge pool. The bathroom is exquisite, featuring two vanity areas, one stand alone stone tub, two showers–one outdoor and indoor, and, of course, a toilet. The plunge pool is heated, so it’s perfect for both the day and night. It’s honestly the perfect place to watch the sunset!!

Second, I just want to take a second to talk about how beautiful the property is generally (outside of the villa). If you’re a return reader, you know how I always say that aesthetics of a property is important and, whether you know it or not, it contributes pretty significantly to how much you enjoy your stay at a hotel. Well, I’m happy to report that the beauty of Kimpton Mas Olas not only takes your breath away every day, but puts you in constant awe and at peace. Walking around is a constant reminder that you are, in fact, in paradise and life is indeed good. This video is a perfect example of what I’m describing, as are the images below. Imagine waking up to this every morning for 5 days!!

Third, the service is stellar! If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it one thousand times — the hallmark of a TRUE 5* hotel is incredible service. Here, the service was incredible — the hotel is appropriately staffed and you can receive F&B service at either one of the two pools — Kahal and Centro, including at the pool bar–which, of course, is where I spent a lot of time because, I mean, it’s a POOL BAR!! The restaurants on property also have really good service — I was especially impressed with one server named Raquel who really made our stay particularly special. (Side note: I wish the restaurants offered more Mexican cuisine — the cuisine was heavily American, and I think it’ll go a long way if they added more Mexican food options into the menus). I also really REALLY loved the fact that the staff was always reachable via Whatsapp message and were very responsive to requests.  Upon checking in, you’ll receive a message with a general welcome sentiment, food menus, and a map of the property, and through that communication, you’re able to chat with the staff as needed. Honestly, it’s the most effective way to ensure guests’ needs are ALWAYS met.

Finally, and this is more of a niche shoutout — but the gym is absolutely spectacular. I’m very health conscious and I love being able to work out when I travel. The unfortunate truth is that many properties don’t invest appropriately in the gym — typically having just a room with a couple of machines and a handful of weights. The Mas Olas gym is special: the dumbbells range from 10lbs to 100lbs; they have peloton bikes, rowers, treadmills, and regular exercise bikes; there is an astro tuff with a flippable weighted tire, sleds/pulleys, and battle ropes; there are also kettlebells, exercise balls, and yoga mats; oh, and there’s also a lap pool — in other words, there is everything you could possibly need!! And to be honest, working out with palm trees in your foreground is pretty awesome and calming. This is my favorite hotel gym to date!
